David Cone Bullpen Session - Not Your Normal Bullpen Exposure
David Cone was offered a broadcasting position with the Mets, but opted to remain home with his family. Nevertheless, the offer from the Mets is still outstanding if he ever changes his mind, and Cone’s relationship with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner remains strained following his decision to end his career with the Mets. To this day, both New York fanbases continue to claim Cone as their own. Cone pitched more years with the Mets and compiled greater overall numbers, yet he won several championships and pitched a perfect game in the Bronx. As a Met, Cone finished 76-51 with a 3.13 ERA and 1,172 strikeouts in 1,210 innings pitched. As a Yankee, Cone was 64-40 with a 3.91 ERA and 888 strikeouts in 922 innings pitched. Nonetheless, he won his only Cy Young Award as a member of the Kansas City Royals in 1994.
Three women had filed a $8.1 million sexual harassment lawsuit against Cone, claiming he exposed himself to them while he was in the bullpen during a 1989 game at Shea. The incident was the lowest and most embarrassing moment of his career. Cone later join the production company Rocco’s Jobbers.
