Mariucci To Interview For Redskins Head Coaching Job
While some teams are content keeping a low profile during Super Bowl week, The Washington Redskins are still beating the bushes trying to round up a new head coach. After letting go of Defensive Coordinator Greg Williams last week it became readily apparent that team owner Daniel Snyder was looking outside the organization for a new coach. After discussions with former Giants head man Jim Fassel it seems that Snyder desires to continue his outside search.
The latest name to surface for the job is the two-time former NFL coach Steve Mariucci, who currently serves as an analyst for the NFL network. Mariucci, who compiled a 57-39 record during coaching stints at San Francisco and Detroit is considered a good fit because of Washington’s all ready in place West Coast offense. League sources claim that an interview between Snyder and Mariucci could take place as early as this week. The Washington Post is reporting that the Mariucci has already been in contact with several potential assistant head coaches.
The search for the replacement of Joe Gibbs just got a little more interesting.
