NFL Free Agency - Jets Sign Calvin Pace, Damien Woody
The Jets are serious about getting better in 2008. Following deals to acquire DT Kris Jenkins and OG Alan Faneca, New York on Monday signed DE/LB Calvin Pace and OT Damien Woody to free agent contracts.
Pace, late of the Arizona Cardinals, was given a 6-year, $42 million contract. Pace had a career year in 2007, his first as a full-time starter for the Cards, amassing 98 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
Woody, meanwhile, was signed away from the Detroit Lions, where he spent the last four years. The Jets gave Woody a 5-year, $25.5 million deal; this after signing Alan Faneca for $40 million over 5 years. That’s a $65.5 million commitment to rebuilding the offensive line.
Jets fans can’t complain that their team isn’t trying. In the last few days they’ve gotten significantly better, at least personnel-wise, on both sides of the ball. If these players work out, the Jets will surely improve on their 4-12 mark from last year.
