Chris Andersen Reinstated from Drug Suspension
Chris Andersen was booted from the NBA in 2006 after violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Tuesday, David Stern reinstated Andersen, who will now reportedly re-join his old team the New Orleans Hornets.
The full details of why Andersen was disqualified from the NBA were never disclosed. However, since Andersen was never previously suspended for a drug violation, logic indicates that he must’ve been caught abusing one of the drugs on the league’s zero-tolerance list.
That list includes methamphetamine; cocaine; LSD; opiates, including heroin, codeine and morphine; and PCP. Testing positive for one of these results in immediate disqualification.
It’s all those nights off you have in the NBA…a guy’s gotta do something with his spare time.
Andersen was averaging 5 points, 5 boards and a block per game at the time of his suspension. For the Hornets to re-sign him, they will have to tender him a contract for the rest of the season equal to the prorated portion of his old salary.
