Martina Navratilova Wants Tennis to Shut Up Maria Sharapova’s Grunting. Funny, I Would’ve Thought Martina Would Dig That…
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova is no fan of current star Maria Sharapova’s tendency toward loud, unintelligible on-court vocalization, and thinks the noises should be banned.
“If I were the commissioner of tennis I would outlaw [screeching during matches],” Martina said. “Maria’s level gets louder the closer the match and quite frankly it’s not necessary, they aren’t lifting 300 pounds, they’re hitting a tennis ball.”
Yeah Martina…that’s a great idea. Let’s have tennis, a sport that ain’t exactly burning it up ratings-wise, take away the one thing that inspires more men to watch - or, more appropriately, listen - than any other single thing.
And perhaps we should also force Maria to wear some nice 1890s tennis outfits too. Bloomers!
Martina clearly has no clue about marketing.
