On Saturday, Andrew Machado of Yardbarker and I traveled to hot Stockton, CA to see try to break his world record of 8.6 pounds of deep fried asparagus (10 minutes) at the Stockton Asparagus Festival. It was a sight to be seen - after enjoying some deep fried asparagus ourselves and a couple Bloody Aspargus Marys… we watched Joey Chestnut down 8.8 pounds of asparagus. Amazing stuff.

This is what Joey Chestnut ate. These were the biggest asparagus stocks I’ve ever seen:

The best part was the introduction by International Federation of Competitive Eating set up Joey Chestnut’s battle against Kobiashi as Rocky vs. Drago:



And here is the start of competition. Ridiculous:


This technique is officially called chipmunking - where you fill your mouth to capacity as the clock ends. Anything in there counts - as long as it doesn’t fall out:


If that is exciting stuff for, the International Federation of Competitive Eating is holding their own Olympic protest. Apparently it gives them indigestion that ballroom dancing is now an Olympic sport, but competitive eating is not:
