Should Eight Belles Jockey Gabriel Saez be Euthanized?
The shit has hit the proverbial fan in the wake of filly Eight Belles’ tragic death after her second-place finish in Sunday’s Kentucky Derby.
Much of that shit is being flung by PETA, who have called upon Eight Belles’ jockey Gabriel Saez to be suspended. PETA says Saez did a bad job handling Eight Belles after the race and was responsible for her breaking both front ankles and having to be euthanized.
Eight Belles’ trainer Larry Jones has defended Saez, saying it was not the jockey’s fault the horse collapsed. Really Larry? So the horse just snapped both its legs in two and fell?
Sorry, but I don’t buy Larry Jones’ defense…clearly, Saez is incompetent, and should be held fully responsible for Eight Belles’ demise.
PETA is right to call upon Saez to be punished…but I actually don’t think they’ve gone far enough. Suspension? For killing a magnificent, heroic and inspirational horse like Eight Belles? No…Saez deserves more than this.
In my opinion, Saez deserves nothing less than to be euthanized himself.
If there were true justice in the world, Saez would’ve been put down right there on the track next to Eight Belles. And then his body would’ve been ground up and made into dog food.
I honestly can’t think of a worse crime in the history of humanity than what Saez perpetrated on Eight Belles, and by extension all her fans and well-wishers. That horse was the best horse in the history of the damn world. Even better than Hidalgo and Black Beauty and Mr. Ed. And Saez killed her!
I’m so mad, I can’t even see straight. If I could get my hands on Saez, I’d wring his little neck (I’d only need one hand to do it too. Jockeys you know…they’re just tiny fellas.).
I hope PETA keeps the pressure on the horse-racing world. Gabriel Saez has to get what’s coming to him. Also, there needs to be a permanent memorial erected to the valiant Eight Belles. A statue in New York harbor near the Statue of Liberty would be appropriate. Of course it would have to be bigger than the Statue of Liberty. And it would have to light up, and there would be rides and also cotton candy.
God bless you, Eight Belles.

When you finallly calm down enough to see straight…look in the mirror and see the ignorant person you are. To call for the jockey of eight belles to be euthanized is a vile and horrific suggestion and so over the top. “Clearly Saez is incompetent”…oh really? Why because you said so? Do you know anything about racing at all?
Take the time to read the vet reports and observations of what happened at www.drf.com. Maybe you might just learn something.

Hey Joe,
I hope you’re reincarnated as a race horse. Dumb a**.

Gabriel Saez 20 years old, with a meager 4 years of experience. That’s
like giving a private pilot a B-747 to fly around the world. Good Luck.
Larry Jones maybe needs to think about placing himself in training. He
is a horse killer!
Wait till Larry has a taste of Eternal Life then he will know who Eight Belles
really is. Its Forever Larry, Forever!

A jockey with 20 years experience on Eight Belles and the same thing would have happened. This happened after the race. She had galloped out over 1/4 mile and had already been geared down. Even expert equine vets said they have never seen something like this happen after a race.
Please find someone else to crucify other than Larry Jones and Gabriel Saez. You watch one race a year and of course that makes you an expert on horse racing. You are all totally clueless. Spend some time down at a stable with a trainer. Do a little reading if you know how.

I must say that this is the most stupid article I have ever read. You are absurd. For one as a vet student and an experienced rider, the jockey did nothing wrong. The horse was fine through out the race, and at the end stepped wrong following a lead change. There is nothing the jockey did, or could do to prevent this. There is nothing the trainer did wrong, It is misfortunate that this accident occurred, however it is more tragic that people such as yourself are trying to blame the jockey. What experience do you have to say that this was the rider’s fault? I know that you like most of America watch what 3 horse race’s a year, maybe, and that obviously makes you an expert. Seriously, you should be euthanized for writing such crap.

“I honestly can’t think of a worse crime in the history of humanity than what Saez perpetrated on Eight Belles…” You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself for writing this. The only thing that brings you any redemption is that you later admit to insanity by writing, “I’m so mad, I can’t even see straight.”
If you’re having trouble thinking of some other crimes that may qualify as worse than the accidental death of a race horse (even a fabulous horse), please consult this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_war_crimes
Please consider your words more carefully before you post them in a public forum. The way that you trivialize the suffering of millions (billions?) is offensive in the extreme.

Um..wow. These comments are pretty much the most ignorant thing i have ever read. If it’s not obvious to you that the article is being extremely sarcastic, then you may be an inbred retard and the product of an alcoholic mother, who was dropped on his head as a child, never went to school and has to wear velcros shoes cause you never learnt to tie your laces. *shakes her sadly*
