MLB Video: Richie Sexson Charges Mound, Sets Off Brawl
The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners can’t play baseball worth a shit this year, so they might as well fight.
And fight they did Thursday night in Safeco. Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez drilled a pair of Rangers; Mariner Richie Sexson got a high, somewhat tight one from Rangers pitcher Kason Gabbard, decided this amounted to retaliation and charged the mound. The scrum, as they say in the biz, was on.
Usually these things end without genuine injury, but this time Kason Gabbard had to leave the game with bruised legs incurred as Sexson pummeled him. There will be a suspension letter in the mail for Mr. Sexson. He needs anger management. Charging the mound on a high pitch that wasn’t even that close to hitting him? Richie was just itching for a fight there. Maybe he’s trying to make everyone forget that he’s basically sucked the last few years.
