Goose Gossage Thinks Joba Chamberlain Should Tone Down His Mound Antics
Hall-of-Fame closer Goose Gossage is no fan of yankees fireplug Joba Chamberlain’s enthusiastic displays while on the mound.
“There’s no place for it in the game,” Gossage said. “I will stand by that and I love Joba Chamberlain. I’m with him down in spring training. He’s a great kid, but no one is passing the torch today. Nobody talks to them. When I broke into the big leagues, I didn’t say two words all year.”
Joba has gotten ripped lately for showing up hitters, especially the other night when he fanned David Dellucci, the same guy who hit a pinch-hit homer off him a couple games before. Joba’s manager Joe Girardi has come to his defense.
“That’s who he is. He’s not showing anyone up. He’s going to show emotion,” Girardi said. “He didn’t look at Dellucci. He looked into our dugout.”
Dellucci begs to differ, saying, “If a hitter did something like that, it would be bush. It’s kind of interesting how a pitcher gets away with it.”
Joba gets away with it because he’s a big old dumb redneck…basically a fat right-handed John Rocker…and people just figure he doesn’t know any better. Maybe somewhere down the road after Joba becomes a starter some N.L. pitcher who used to be in the A.L. will stick one in his ear-hole when he has to hit. Or maybe Joba will say the wrong thing after a ride on a subway and be exposed as the fat, lip-flapping joke he is. Then after he’s run out of the league, he can make some money by printing up dumb-ass t-shirts and selling them on the internet.
