OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss offensive tackle Michael Oher announced here Wednesday that he has reconsidered his decision to enter the upcoming 2008 National Football League draft and will return for his senior season with the Rebels.

“While I felt good about being projected as a possible first round pick and had everybody in my corner, it just kept coming back to me that I was leaving some unfinished business at Ole Miss,” Oher said. “It’s really about winning more games and going to a bowl game. I wanted to be a part of making that happen. Most of all, I want to finish my senior year with my teammates. Also, I’m sure mom and dad are happy with my decision to come back.”

Oher received All-SEC distinction each of the past two years and helped BenJarvus Green-Ellis register consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. The Memphis native has started 34 straight games over his Rebel tenure.

“I was excited when Michael called to say he’s decided to return to Ole Miss for his senior season,” said Rebel head coach Houston Nutt. “Michael told me he wanted to make a commitment to his academics and to football and be the very best football player he can be. It’s good to have him back in the Ole Miss family.”

Oher was a consensus First Team All-SEC pick as a junior in 2007 and garnered Fourth Team All-American honors from Phil Steele. He was named Second Team All-SEC in 2006 and a First Team Freshman All-American in 2005.

The subject of the New York Times best seller, “The Blind Side: The Evolution of a Game,” Oher earned First Team All-America accolades and was listed as the nation’s top prep offensive tackle as a senior at Briarcrest Christian. He was recently named to Rivals.com’s U.S. Army All-America Bowl All-Time Team.

Top high school prospect Keith Brumbaugh was recruited to play basketball for Oklahoma State in 2005. A shoplifting arrest, followed by a disputed ACT score, scuttled Brumbaugh’s career as a Cowboy however, and he left the team without ever playing a game.

The former Florida Mr. Basketball would face more legal troubles, including an arrest for marijuana possession. He eventually wended his way to Tampa’s Hillsborough Community College, where last season the 6-9 sophomore scored 36.5 ppg while also averaging 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.

NBA scouts took notice. On Monday, Brumbaugh will formally announce his entry into the draft, spurning a number of big-time D-I college programs including USC, UCONN and Ohio State.

Brumbaugh’s overall off-court record includes six arrests and two jail terms, but Brumbaugh insists he’s past all that.

“I’ve made some stupid decisions in my life — and with decisions come consequences,” he told the Orlando Sentinel. “But I’ve paid my debt to society, I’m back on track and looking to the future, not the past.”

According to the Chronicle, Duke’s independent daily newspaper, current athletic director Joe Alleva will be leaving Duke for LSU. Last year’s Tiger football team won more games than TEN seasons worth of wins for football teams under Alleva’s supervision.

Todd Marinovich’s brother Mikhail, who plays football at Syracuse University, was arrested early this week for breaking into a university equipment room.

Mikhail and a second man, Paul Chiara, were reportedly allowed inside Manley Field House but did not have access to the equipment room. For whatever reason, the two men broke a roll-up metal gate and a lock in order to get inside the room, then immediately fled. They were chased down by Syracuse police and university safety officers, and ultimately charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief. Both were said to be intoxicated.

Mikhail’s antics add slightly to the criminal reputation of the Marinovich family, but still pale in comparison to those of his brother Todd, who was famously groomed to be a quarterback almost from the womb by his obsessive father, but turned into a bust after being drafted out of USC by the Raiders in the early ’90s.

Todd first made negative headlines while still at USC when he was arrested and charged with rape. In 1997, 5 years after his disastrous nfl career ended, Marinovich served three months in jail for growing pot; then in 2000 he was arrested for sexual assault, and in 2001 for suspicion of heroin possession (the latter charge got him kicked off the AFL’s L.A. Avengers).

Todd continued his streak of bizarre criminal behavior in 2005 when he was caught with drug paraphernalia and child pornography in a public bathroom. Todd tried fleeing on a kid’s bicycle but was chased down by police, and on the police report, listed “unemployed artist” and “anarchist” as his occupations.

Then, in 2007, Marinovich was again arrested, this time for felony drug possession and resisting a police order after being stopped for skateboarding near a boardwalk where such activity is forbidden. The 38-year-old skateboarding anarchist again tried to flee police, but was found in a carport with a guitar case containing a gram of powdered methamphetamine.

Breaking: Northern Illinois University has announced the cancellation of all athletic events this weekend, both home and away, in the wake of Thursday’s on-campus shooting which left six dead and more than a dozen others wounded.
