MMA has made the leap to network TV thanks to EliteXC’s deal with CBS. The first extravaganza’s headline fight pitted Kimbo Slice against James Thompson aka The Colossus. Thompson may in fact have been winning the fight on points (or whatever they call it in MMA) at the start of the third…but it didn’t matter after Kimbo caught him with a good right and turned his ear into something resembling a Japanese delicacy.

The fans booed…they wanted more carnage. “Rip that guy’s ear off Kimbo!” Charming.

MMA fighter and American Gladiator Erin Toughill is aptly named…just ask her husband Clark Bevans, who is seeking an annulment after Toughill allegedly beat him up on several occasions, including their honeymoon.

Bevans, an MMA fighter himself, has also gotten a restraining order against Toughill. The legal documents claim that Toughill went “insane” with jealousy, and accused Bevans of being “a pedophile, sociopath and homosexual.” Toughill also allegedly smashed the windshield on Bevans’ RV, and once performed a hockey-style bodycheck on an ex-flame of his who was working at Gold’s Gym.

Toughill was announced as a new cast-member on American Gladiators just a couple of weeks ago. Producers say they were unaware of her marital issues at the time of the hiring. Toughill herself is denying Bevans’ allegations.

Georges St. Pierre avenged his 2007 loss to Matt Serra by defeating Serra at UFC 83 in Montreal.

Kalib Starnes will fight Nate Quarry Saturday night as part of UFC 83. Last October, Starnes took a nasty cut to the forehead against Alan Belcher. Words you never want to hear someone say when examining a cut on your forehead: “I see skull.”

The fat, jolly boxer known as Butterbean decided to try his hand at MMA. The result? Imagine a giant pink blob getting pummeled and you’ll have an idea.

Tito Ortiz has some kind of gripe with UFC and its president Dana White. I don’t know the origins of the unpleasantness, nor do I care. I only heard of Tito Ortiz as of five minutes ago. The only other thing I know about him is that his girlfriend is Jenna Jameson. What’s left of Jenna Jameson, anyway.

Yushin Okami put himself in position for a shot at Anderson Silva’s middleweight title by defeating former champion Evan Tanner.

Anderson Silva confirmed his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA by submitting former Olympic wrestler Dan Henderson in the second round of their highly-anticipated UFC 82 battle Saturday night.

Silva, the UFC middleweight champ, used a rear-naked choke on Henderson, forcing the challenger to tap with eight seconds left in the round.

The underdog Henderson proved himself a worthy opponent. He actually won the first round after bringing Silva to the canvas with a wrestling move, but Silva got to Henderson in the second with a knee to the chin followed by powerpunches. Silva then tried for submission, and was successful.
