US´ first soccer match in Cuba in 61 years

Landon Donovan and his folks will play a World Cup qualifier game in Havana on Saturday. Nobody has done that in… 61 years!
Luis Hernandez, president of the Cuban Football Association, downplayed the political significance of the game. “The political aspect has nothing to do with it. The U.S. players are just athletes, soccer players, and we are too.” Hernandez said on Monday.
And Landon Donovan thinks just the same: “We’re not going there to be political. I’m not going there to make any political statements. I’m going there to play and try to win. That (political) part of it is real, but the reason we’re there is to play soccer. And that’s what we have to remember.”
Maybe they are the only ones that think that way. And luckly for U.S. soccer Cuba´s national team is one of the worse teams in the region. So… if they don´t win they should think of seeking political asylum down there.
